Democrat Senator Krysten Sinema, who has frequently drawn the ire of the White House due to her moderate stance, recently spoke out against the Biden administration’s policies once again. The Arizona senator declared that the recent decision to repeal Title 42, a Trump administration policy that expelled migrants due to the crisis of the pandemic, could cause potential harm to communities throughout Arizona, as well as to migrants themselves.
In reference to the Biden administration’s recent decision to extend various COVID measures for Americans, Sinema observed that the ” extension of public health emergency authorities” further illustrates the importance of keeping Title 42 provisions in place in order “to protect the health and safety of Arizona communities and migrants.
“[I will] pushing for transparency and accountability from the Administration to help secure the border,” Sinema continued, adding that she is also committed to ensuring the fair treatment of migrants alongside the safety of Arizona communities, who she represents.
Sinema recently sent a letter to the White House, imploring President Joe Biden to delay the Title 42 repeal, according to her official website. At minimum, Sinema urged waiting to repeal Title 42 until an adequate alternative program was put in place to stem the massive flow of illegal migration.
Sinema also points out that the massive influx of illegal immigration will also strain the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), alongside U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Additional government agencies will also suffer, which further warrants the need to reconsider the imminent repeal of Title 42.
In 2020, the Trump administration imposed the Title 42 health order through the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the pandemic began to spread throughout the nation. The primary purpose of Title 42 is to protect Americans from further exposure to the virus catalyzed by illegal immigration of individuals from varied origins.
Sinema is not alone in her demands for accountability from the White House regarding its disastrous border policies. Other Democrat senators, including Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Maggie Hassan, and Senator Mark Kelly, have also supported Sinema’s efforts.
Manchin and Sinema have garnered a reputation as moderate Democrat senators due to their possible “swing” votes, notably when they blocked the Biden administration’s mega spending agenda in the past year.
While critics argue that Title 42 is no longer necessary since American citizens have access to various therapies and vaccines, the White House continues to impose restrictions on Americans via mask mandates, COVID test entry requirements, and other measures.
