Even Democrats Aren’t Letting Biden Off The Hook For This Disaster

The Biden administration might be trying to move away from the catastrophe in Afghanistan as rapidly as possible, but even the Democrat-heavy legislative branch does not appear overly eager to let Biden off the hook so easily.

On the contrary, the Senate recently grilled Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the catastrophic withdrawal, though Blinken gave a series of absurd responses that raised more questions than answered them.

For instance, Blinken is suggesting that Americans who remain trapped in Afghanistan are really doing so since they can’t decide which nation to live in. Seems rather odd that significant numbers of individuals would have difficulty contemplating whether or not to live under the Taliban.

In that statement, Blinken is also suggesting that every single American stuck in Afghanistan also happens to be a national of Afghanistan, which seems a bit unlikely, though he makes the assertion anyway.

“Despite this effort, at the time the evacuation began, there were still thousands of Americans in Afghanistan, almost all of whom were evacuated by August 31. Many were dual citizens living in Afghanistan for years, decades, generations. Deciding whether or not to leave the place they know as home is a wrenching decision.” [Source: Fox News]

Furthermore, throughout his testimony, Blinken demonstrated a rather astonishing detachment from reality, appearing to suggest that the Biden administration had a largely successful withdrawal.

Which drew rather sharp rebukes from the senators present, particularly Republican senators.

Even Mitt Romney was critical of Blinken, which is rather revealing, given Romney’s other interesting views over the past several years.

Some senators were brutal in their assessment of Blinken. For instance, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) openly called out Blinken for delivering a testimony that appeared to be more wishful thinking than reality.

“If I were just to read your testimony not having watched any news I would literally think this was a smashing success. But I do read the news, as most Americans do, and we realize that this was a complete debacle … I think what concerns me the most, among many things, is that detachment from reality.” [Source: Fox News]

The “detachment from reality” is indeed one of the most terrifying aspects of the Biden presidency, especially when that reality includes hunting down American “terrorists” (i.e., conservatives) with greater zeal than the Taliban (literally).

Part of that detachment also includes being unable to answer whether or not a drone attack killed a terrorist or an aid worker.

And as asinine as that might sound, it is actually the truth: Blinken was unable to answer any questions about who a drone strike really killed, and he merely kept repeating that they were “reviewing” the incident.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) summed up that gem rather nicely.

“You’d think you’d kind of know before you off somebody with a Predator drone whether he’s an aid worker or an ISIS-K.” [Source: Fox News]

However, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) made some of the most dramatic commentary of all, openly calling Blinken a liar in the wake of his Senate testimony.

“I do not wish to hear from you. I’m not yielding you a moment of time. I’m not yielding you a moment of time, I don’t wish to hear your lies. I heard your lies when you stepped in front of the camera, I’m not listening … No one should hear your lies.” [Source: Breitbart]

No one should have to hear anyone’s lies, particularly if they originate from leaders of the “free world.”

Of course, Blinken appears to be merely following in the footsteps of the president, who is thus far enjoying relatively limited media coverage of his highly damning phone call with the then-President of Afghanistan Karzai.

“Hey look, I want to make it clear that I am not a military man any more than you are, but I have been meeting with our Pentagon folks, and our national security people, as you have with ours and yours, and as you know and I need not tell you the perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things aren’t going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban. And there’s a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture.” [Source: Breitbart]

In other words, Biden is asking another world leader … to lie to the world.

Imagine if such a phone call with Trump had surfaced … he’d likely already have been unconstitutionally hurled out of office.
