DeSantis Nips At Trump’s Heels

According to the recent results of a Yahoo! News/YouGov poll, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is nipping at former President Donald J. Trump’s heels in terms of 2024 presidential prospects.

The poll targeted Republican or likely Republican voters, directly querying, “who would you rather see as the Republican nominee for President in 2024?”

In response, 45 percent of participants indicated a preference for Trump, whereas 36 percent indicated a preference for DeSantis.

As noted by Mediaite, the results, revealing only a 9-point lead in favor of Trump, constitute the closest anyone has been able to come to Trump in a credible Republican poll.

Moreover, the results also illustrate how rapidly DeSantis has ascended in popularity, especially when comparing his current performance with past performance in the same poll.

In January, the Yahoo News!/YouGov poll determined that DeSantis trailed Trump by at least 23 percentage points.

By February, Trump’s lead shrank, with DeSantis trailing by 16 percentage points.

Consequently, the single-digit trailing illustrates significant, growing momentum behind a potential DeSantis 2024 presidential campaign.

In several other Republican polls, Trump generally leads DeSantis by at least 20-30 points.

However, in one poll commissioned by the fervently anti-Trump John Bolton, Trump leads DeSantis by only a single percentage point.

On a state level, DeSantis narrows the gap even further, with New Hampshire polling results revealing DeSantis to be more popular than Trump amongst likely Republican voters.

Specifically, DeSantis is revealed to be more likely to beat incumbent President Joe Biden, should Biden unwisely choose to run again, as well as more likely to defeat Trump in the state’s primary elections.

The results of the most recent Yahoo News!/YouGov poll were acquired prior to the dramatic testimony delivered by Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump aide.

According to Hutchinson, Trump became highly agitated when he was informed he could not go to Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

Hutchinson also claimed that Trump lurched at security detail and tried to drive the vehicle himself.

The former president has dismissed any close connection to Hutchinson and refuted her theatrical testimony.

As noted by the Washington Examiner, Trump characterized Hutchinson’s revelations as little more than a “fake story.”
