Republican Senator Ted Cruz is currently crowing over a Supreme Court ruling that puts anti-Second Amendment advocates in their place.
A recent ruling provided for the expansion of gun rights, chiefly via striking down a New York law that aimed to restrict Second Amendment rights for Americans.
A total of six judges voted in favor, whereas three judges, known for their more liberal, activist views, voted against.
Justice Clarence Thomas, well known for his unapologetically conservative stance, wrote for the majority, noting that the Second Amendment of the Constitution explicitly calls for “an individual’s right to carry a handgun” for purposes of self-defense outside of their private homes.
The New York law aimed to disrupt this right, which in turn would leave the citizens of the state even more vulnerable to violence, which has significantly escalated in light of the widespread “Defund Police” movement advocated by the current White House.
Cruz is delighted by the ruling, issuing a statement shortly after the constitutionally correct decision.
“Today, the Supreme Court upheld our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms,” Cruz crowed, “[namely] by striking down a New York law that effectively prohibited a citizen from carrying a handgun outside the home.”
Cruz also noted that the six justices who voted in favor of rendering the New York legislation unconstitutional made an accurate decision, given that the legislation in the ultra-liberal state “unquestionably” infringed not only on individuals’ Second Amendment rights, but also their Fourteenth Amendment rights.
“I was proud to lead an amicus brief on behalf of 24 of my Senate colleagues making these exact arguments,” Cruz added proudly.
The conservative senator also noted that the Supreme Court’s most recent decision comprises a “vindication of the right to carry a firearm for self-defense outside the home,” as well as “an ever-present reminder of our duty as citizens to defend our constitutional rights from brazen attacks from the left.”
