After a recent win during a special Republican primary runoff for the Senate in Oklahoma, Representative Markwayne Mullin informed Newsmax that President Joe Biden’s announcement regarding the cancellation of student debt was a rather obvious attempt to buy votes in advance of the upcoming midterm elections.
Biden recently declared that up to $10,000 in student debt for earners making under $125,000 annually would be forgiven. For Pell Grant recipients, the total amount forgiven could climb to as high as $20,000.
The president’s latest decision could impact as many as 43 million Americans, 20 million of whom could have their student debts completely wiped clean.
The decision has proven to be highly controversial with individuals who have either paid off their student loans or never attended college in the first place due to the high costs.
Moreover, as many economists believe that such a move is likely to worsen inflation, the timing of Biden’s announcement is problematic, not to mention highly suspect, given how obvious the motivation is.
“This is nothing more than President Biden trying to buy votes,” Mullin remarked, “they’re trying to allow Biden to buy those votes knowing that 60% of the taxpayers today never got a college degree.”
Representative Mullin also noted that in spite of Biden’s obvious efforts to buy votes, students are highly likely to have already “made their minds up.”
Per the results of a recent Morning Consult/Politico poll, Biden’s approval rating soared to the highest it has been in multiple months, with 43 percent of voters approving of the president’s performance.
