In a recent major development, a U.S. House Panel is apparently investigating the ways in which former President Donald J. Trump handled White House records. This investigation has commenced in earnest after fifteen boxes of official documents were abruptly taken from Trump’s private residence in Florida.
Lawmakers claim that serious violations of the law may have occurred, which is is precisely why the panel wants access to the files in the 15 boxes.
According to Carolyn Maloney, who serves as the House oversight panel chairwoman, she remains “deeply concerned” that the Trump administration did not turn over the records to the National Archives after his presidential term ended in January 2021.
Per Maloney, the records “appear to have been removed from the White House,” which constitutes a major violation of the law, notably the Presidential Records Act.
Maloney also indicated that she was deeply concerned by various media reports regarding Trump’s efforts to “repeatedly” destroy various records. These attempted destructions would comprise “additional serious violations of the law” the panel chairwoman continued.
Various representatives for Trump did not provide an immediate response to the media.
