Pence Ponders 2024 Presidential Run

Recently, a group of GOP lawmakers banded together in order to encourage former Vice President Mike Pence to pursue the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

During a semi-private meeting, several legislators praised Pence for upholding the tenets of the U.S. Constitution that led up to the events on Capitol Hill on January 6.

The origins of the chaos that unfolded that day are presently being investigated by a House Select Committee, which has drawn the ire of former President Donald Trump and allies.

According to a report from Axios, one of the most vocal supporters of Pence’s potential run for the presidency included Representative Chip Roy of Texas, who declared that he was grateful to Pence for “defending our Constitution.”

“I’m happy to shout it from Mar-A-Lago to Bedminster,” Roy declared, “I just want you to know how grateful we are.”

Trump owns a golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, and his permanent residence is at the Mar-A-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

It is unclear whether or not Roy believes that Trump legitimately lost to incumbent President Joe Biden, or if he merely believes that Pence would be a stronger candidate than Trump due to all the controversy surrounding the end of the latter’s presidency.

Other individuals at the meeting also chimed in about the support for Pence, with Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska noting that people were thanking Pence “for his courage and doing the right thing” amid the chaos on Capitol Hill on January 6.

Internal politics aside, Trump remains a strong favorite amongst many Americans for running again.

According to the results of a poll jointly run by the New York Times and Siena College, Trump leads amongst likely voters by at least 49 percent, which is a 24-point lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who clocks in at 25 percent support.

DeSantis is trailed by Senator Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pence, who are polling at 7, 6, and 6 percent, respectively.
