Prince Harry’s Colbert Joke Sparks Outrage and Debate

When Prince Harry appeared on CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” he tried to get a laugh by calling President Donald Trump “America’s king.” It was a joke, of course, but one that reveals a deeper misunderstanding of our Constitution and the American spirit.

Let’s be clear. America does not have kings. We fought a war to be free from them. In 1776, brave men stood up to the British crown—Prince Harry’s own ancestors—and said, “We will govern ourselves.” That founding principle lives on today. Our President is not a king. He is elected by the people, for the people, and serves under the law, not above it.

Here’s what happened. Prince Harry was on Colbert’s show, pretending to star in a fake Christmas movie called “The Gingerbread Prince.” During their chat, Colbert joked, “I wouldn’t say we’re obsessed with royalty.” Harry, smirking, shot back, “Really? I heard you elected a king.” The audience gave a mix of laughs and groans.

Some people in the crowd may have agreed with him. After all, there have been “No Kings” protests, mostly from left-wing activists, who accuse President Trump of acting like a monarch. These critics claim he’s too strong, that he doesn’t play by the rules. But history tells a different story.

President Trump was elected—twice—by millions of Americans who believe in strong leadership, secure borders, and a constitutional government. He is not a king. He is a chief executive chosen by the people through elections. He is held in check by the courts, the Congress, and most importantly, the Constitution.

Prince Harry may not understand that. He comes from a family where power is inherited, not earned. In Britain, the monarchy still exists, even if it’s mostly symbolic. But here in the United States, our leaders don’t wear crowns. They take oaths. They swear to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Harry’s joke also shows something else: the British elite still don’t grasp why America broke away in the first place. We didn’t reject King George III just to replace him with a new king of our own. We rejected the very idea of kingship. We chose liberty, self-rule, and limited government.

And now, in 2025, we continue to choose those values. President Trump is doing what the American people elected him to do—cut red tape, protect our freedoms, and stand up to the global elites who would rather see America bow to foreign powers than stand tall in independence.

Some in Hollywood and the media, like Stephen Colbert, still can’t accept that. They mock the people’s choice. They laugh at the idea of a leader who actually listens to the working class. But their laughter rings hollow. The American people know the difference between a tyrant and a patriot.

As for Prince Harry’s other comments—joking about suing the Trump administration and teasing Colbert for being canceled—they sound like the usual jabs from celebrities who are far removed from everyday life. It’s easy to mock when you live in luxury and don’t have to worry about inflation, crime, or border security.

But out here in the real world, we take our freedom seriously. Our Founders gave us a Republic, not a monarchy. And every time someone like Prince Harry mocks that, it reminds us why we must defend it.

So no, America didn’t elect a king. We elected a President. And the only crown he wears is the trust of the people who believe in liberty, law, and the Constitution.
