But these weren’t just any orders. These were hypothetical commands from President Trump—lawful orders coming from the commander of our armed forces. According to federal law in 18 U.S.C. § 2387, it is illegal to interfere with the loyalty and discipline of the armed forces. And under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), military retirees like Mark Kelly—himself a retired Navy captain—are still subject to court-martial if they commit offenses against military law.
The Department of War, acting according to its duty, has now announced that it is reviewing the allegations against Kelly. They have even stated that court-martial proceedings are on the table. This isn’t political revenge. It’s the rule of law. When someone in a position of power tells soldiers to commit treason, there must be accountability.
President Trump responded by calling out the seditious nature of these actions.
