Biased Reporting: Is Media Failing Its Duty?

Biased Reporting: Is Media Failing Its Duty?

The press is supposed to tell the truth. That’s what the First Amendment protects — the freedom of the press to report facts without government control. But that freedom comes with a duty: to be fair, to be honest, and to be neutral. When reporters stop doing that, they become something else — political activists pretending to be journalists.

That brings us to the case of Cheyanne Daniels, a reporter now covering President Trump for Politico. She is supposed to be reporting the news from the White House. But based on her past statements, it’s clear she brings a deep political bias to her work. In fact, she publicly admitted to crying when President Trump was elected in 2016. Not because she was moved by history — but because she thought “horrible things were to come.” That’s not a neutral voice. That’s someone who already made up her mind before she ever started reporting.

Daniels made these statements while she was still a journalism student. But instead of learning to be objective, she leaned into her own political views. She later described Trump as a “demagogue” and said that some of his voters don’t believe her life as a Black woman matters. Those are serious claims. And they reveal a deep distrust and anger toward not only the President, but the millions of Americans who voted for him.

Now, that same person is covering the Trump White House for a major media outlet. Do you think she can be fair? Do you think her articles will treat this administration with the same seriousness they would offer a Democrat president? The answer is obvious.

This is why people no longer trust the media. Time and again, we see so-called “reporters” who are really just Democrat supporters with press badges. They cry when Republicans win. They cheer when Democrats take power. And then they expect the American people to believe they are neutral observers. It’s insulting.

Politico is one of many outlets that claims to be down the middle. But when they hire someone who openly wept at the thought of a Trump presidency, it tells us everything we need to know. They don’t want fair reporting. They want a constant stream of attacks on President Trump and the people who support him.

Let’s remember what the Founders intended. The free press was meant to be a watchdog — not a lapdog for the political class. James Madison once said that “a popular government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy.” In other words, if the people can’t get true, unbiased information, then the whole idea of self-government falls apart.

That’s what’s at stake when reporters like Cheyanne Daniels are placed in positions of power within the media. They shape what people see and hear. If they are biased, the truth gets twisted. And when the truth is twisted, liberty is in danger.

The good news is that more Americans are waking up. They see the double standards. They see the bias. And they are turning to independent voices and alternative outlets to find what the mainstream press won’t give them — the truth.

President Trump is leading again in 2025, and despite the media’s best efforts, he continues to serve the American people. But we must stay vigilant. We must hold the press to account. And we must always defend the principles that make this country free — starting with the truth.

The press has every right to speak. But we have the right to expect honesty. And when they fail to deliver, we have the right to call them out.
