ICE Under Attack: Dangerous Rhetoric Sparks Deadly Violence

The recent shooting at an ICE detention center in Dallas is a grim reminder of what happens when hateful rhetoric turns into real violence. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has now ordered stronger security at immigration facilities across the country. This is the right call, and it comes not a moment too soon.

On Wednesday, a man named Joshua Jahn opened fire at an ICE facility in Texas, killing one detainee and injuring two others before taking his own life. The shooter left behind ammunition marked with the words “anti-ICE.” This wasn’t just a random act of violence—it was a targeted attack against law enforcement and our immigration system. It was fueled by a growing, dangerous hatred of those who enforce the law.

Let’s be clear: ICE officers are not villains. They are public servants who carry out the laws passed by Congress and supported by the American people. They protect our borders, remove dangerous criminals, and help keep our communities safe. Yet over the last few years, radical voices on the far left have painted ICE officers as villains. They’ve compared them to Nazis, to secret police, even to slave catchers. That kind of talk isn’t just wrong—it’s reckless and dangerous.

Secretary Noem rightly called out this rhetoric in her statement after the attack. She said this kind of language has consequences. And she’s right. For too long, politicians and media figures have demonized ICE. They treat immigration enforcement as something to be ashamed of, when it should be something we support. The result is that unstable individuals, like the Dallas shooter, may feel emboldened to act on these twisted ideas.

President Trump also weighed in, calling the shooter “deranged” and the attack “despicable.” He’s not afraid to say what others hesitate to admit: this was an act of political violence, driven by anti-law enforcement hatred. And it must not be ignored.

This wasn’t the first threat against ICE. Just last month, the same Dallas facility received a bomb threat. A man claimed to have a bomb in his backpack and even showed officers what he said was a detonator. He was arrested, but that incident didn’t get much attention. Now, after a fatal shooting, people are finally starting to wake up to the danger.

Local law enforcement is stepping up too. In California, police are increasing patrols around ICE detention centers like the one in Adelanto. The San Bernardino County Sheriff warned citizens to stay alert and report anything suspicious. This is good policing, but it’s also a sign of the times that our law officers now need protection just for doing their jobs.

What’s most troubling is that the people behind these attacks may see themselves as heroes. They think they’re standing up for justice. But there’s no justice in murder. There’s no heroism in shooting unarmed detainees or threatening to blow up a facility. That’s terrorism, plain and simple.

In this country, we settle our disagreements through law, not violence. We debate, we vote, we legislate. That’s the American way. But when one side refuses to respect the law, when they treat law enforcement as the enemy, they invite chaos.

The Constitution gives Congress the power to set immigration policy. It gives the executive branch the authority to enforce it. That’s what ICE does. And under President Trump, our immigration laws are finally being enforced again. That’s not cruelty—it’s order.

We must stand with the men and women of ICE. We must reject the lies and hatred that fuel these attacks. And we must never forget that the rule of law is the foundation of our freedom. When we defend it, we defend America itself.
