Venezuelan Jets Taunt U.S. Navy in Bold Standoff

The United States Navy was recently challenged in a way that reminds us all why a strong defense matters. On September 4, 2025, two Venezuelan military planes flew dangerously close to a U.S. Navy ship in international waters. This wasn’t just a mistake or a friendly fly-by. It was a bold and reckless move by the Maduro regime, which runs Venezuela more like a criminal cartel than a lawful government.

The Pentagon, which oversees our nation’s defenses, called this flyover a “highly provocative move.” That means Venezuela was trying to interfere with the U.S. military’s mission to stop drug smuggling and terrorism in the Caribbean Sea. Just two days before, our military had taken out a boat near Venezuela that was carrying drugs and members of a violent gang called Tren de Aragua. This gang has been officially labeled a foreign terrorist organization by President Trump’s administration.

President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have made it clear: the United States will not sit back while dangerous criminals try to sneak drugs into our country or threaten American lives. Hegseth even said we may strike again if needed. That’s leadership. That’s action. And it’s exactly what the Constitution allows the federal government to do—protect the American people from foreign threats.

Let’s be clear. Venezuela’s government is not acting like a peaceful neighbor. It’s acting like a hostile power. Instead of working to stop crime, President Maduro is protecting terrorists and drug traffickers. He even tried to deny what happened, claiming a video of the U.S. military strike was fake. His minister said it looked like a cartoon created by artificial intelligence. But Secretary Hegseth quickly shut that down, saying he watched the real-time footage himself from Washington.

This is not a time for games or lies. Our Constitution gives the federal government the power to defend our borders and keep our people safe. That includes stopping drugs from pouring into our cities and stopping terrorists before they reach our shores. The Trump administration is doing exactly that—with strength and clarity.

Some may ask, why does this matter so far from home? The answer is simple. Tren de Aragua is not just a problem for Venezuela. It’s a problem for the United States. This gang is known for brutal violence, human trafficking, and drug running. Many of its members have crossed into our country illegally. President Trump has said what many Americans already feel in their hearts: “They’ve been sending millions of people into the country. Many of them are Tren de Aragua, some of the worst people anywhere in the world.”

We cannot turn a blind eye to this. The Venezuelan regime is using its military to intimidate us, even as it shelters terrorists. But America will not be intimidated. Our Founders believed in peace through strength. They gave Congress the power to raise armies and the President the authority to act quickly to defend our nation. That’s what Trump is doing now.

If anything, Venezuela’s behavior proves why we must remain alert and prepared. Maduro has even told his people to form militias and prepare for war. He’s trying to stir up fear and distract from his own failures. But the American people are not fooled. We know that when bad actors test our resolve, we must stand firm.

In times like this, we remember the wisdom of George Washington, who warned against becoming weak in the face of foreign threats. He knew that liberty must be defended with courage and discipline. That’s exactly what we’re seeing from our armed forces today.

The world is watching. And thanks to strong leadership, the United States is showing that we will always defend our freedom, our people, and our Constitution.
