Looks like the fallout from the ill-advised coverup of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive health keeps on snowballing.
Even more so now that Biden’s former doctor has surfaced in various media outlets.
Per a stunning report from the New York Post, Dr. Kevin O’Connor made a recent appearance before the House in order to answer varied questions regarding the former president’s cognitive decline and overall health.
Well, the questions may have been varied, but O’Connor’s answers certainly were not.
In fact, the New York Post noted that O’Connor reportedly “refused to answer a single question … stunningly invoking his right against self-incrimination before slinking out of a congressional deposition.”
That’s right: O’Connor did not answer a single question regarding Biden’s cognitive decline … nor did he answer a single question about the former president’s overall health.
On the contrary, O’Connor invoked his right against self-incrimination, which is embedded within the Fifth Amendment, as noted by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer.
“Dr. O’Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment,” Comer remarked in amusement.
A close review of the actual text of the Fifth Amendment reveals O’Connor’s invocation of his constitutional rights even more intriguing.
While the Fifth Amendment addresses a number of judicial concerns, ranging from grand juries to due process, the element of the amendment most applicable to O’Connor’s case is as follows: “No person … shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.”
In other words, O’Connor does not want to become “a witness against himself” when testifying about the former president’s health. The doctor also invoked patient-physician privacy privileges as another reason for refusing to answer a single question.
Which is rather … interesting, to put it mildly.
Comer has certainly long been interested in what O’Connor may have to say, and his subpoena really should not have been a surprise to anyone.
After all, O’Connor served as Biden’s doctor for years, which is precisely why Comer called for him to testify before the House … after Biden’s doctor refused to undergo a transcribed interview.
And that refusal was noted in O’Connor’s subpoena, as detailed in a press release for the House.
“The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform requested that you – because of your role as former Physician to the President for President Joe Biden – appear for a transcribed interview … regarding the circumstances surrounding your assessment in February 2024 that former President Biden was ‘a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency … You refused the Committee’s request,” Comer declared, according to the press release.
In the letter itself, Comer also added that the Biden doctor’s “testimony is critical.”
And, given O’Connor’s reported refusal to sit down for an interview, Comer promptly pressed for an appearance before the House.
In which O’Connor repeatedly invoked his right to the Fifth Amendment.
And physician-patient privacy.
So, while medical privacy is certainly a matter of utmost importance, mollifying serious concerns from the public regarding American leadership is also quite important.
And it would appear that those concerned will not be addressed anytime soon.
Though Biden certainly has a reason to keep grinning.
