Well, that was a rather shocking twist of events.
While multiple universities have been battling Trump left and right – in particular Harvard University and Columbia University – it would appear that another Ivy League school has opted for a different route.
A far more compliant route, to be exact, specifically with regards to transgender athletes, after the federal government found the university guilty of violating Title IX.
And this violation traces directly back to a January 25 executive order: “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”
“Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being. The erasure of sex in language and policy has a corrosive impact not just on women but on the validity of the entire American system. Basing Federal policy on truth is critical to scientific inquiry, public safety, morale, and trust in government itself …
Accordingly, my Administration will defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male,” the order asserted.
Given that the University of Pennsylvania – colloquially known as Penn – was at the epicenter of the transgender controversy, it was rather easy for the federal government to find the Ivy League institution guilty of discriminating against women under the tenets of Title IX.
Ironically, Penn is Trump’s alma mater, and even more ironically, Title IX was Obama’s baby … specifically the provisions regarding transgenderism, that is.
In fact, Obama had his Department of Education (DOE) send a letter to schools around the country, demanding “bathroom rights” for transgender militants … and those
So, it is quite intriguing to see how these strands – Trump’s alma mater re-interpreting Obama’s own interpretations of Title IX – have ultimately interwoven for the protection of women.
Obama is likely fuming in one of his many ill-begotten mansions now, and it will not be surprising at all if he comes out ranting and raving against Penn.
As reported by The Hill, Penn has decided to eliminate the presence of all transgender athletes in its sports programs.
In other words, Penn has opted to follow, rather than defy, federal orders.
Which was made abundantly clear in an official statement.
“The University will not – on the basis of sex – exclude female students from participation in, deny female students the benefits of, or subject female students to discrimination under, any athletics programs. In addition, in providing to female student-athletes intimate facilities such as locker rooms and bathrooms in connection with Penn Athletics, such facilities shall be strictly separated on the basis of sex and comparably provided to each sex,” Penn declared.
Penn also noted that it would not engage with other entities that violate Title IX provisions, asserting that “[the university] will not contract with, or arrange with any third party entity to provide benefits of the University’s athletics programs, if that third-party entity is acting in violation of Title IX.”
Now that is an excellent example of thorough adherence to federal orders.
In reality, such transgender participation was rather lopsided in Penn all along anyway … given that multiple previous males opted to compete in women’s sports, rather than the other way around.
And the incentive was rather obvious: Biological men generally dwarf biological women in terms of strength.
Which is precisely why “Lia Thomas,” a self-declared transgender woman, snapped up multiple championships at Penn with ease.
However, Thomas’s victories have proven to be temporary, as “her” records will be removed under Penn’s revised policy.
As noted by The Hill, “agreed to ban transgender women from participating on its women’s sports teams and remove the records of Lia Thomas, a former student and the first transgender woman to win a NCAA Division I national championship.”
The removal of Thomas from official records likely brings long overdue relief to the female athletes effectively victimized by the transgender movement.
One of the most prominent female athletes included Riley Gaines, who became an outspoken critic of transgender athletes … as well as a target of the left for her supposed intolerance.
For instance, DEI “sports journalist” Jemele Hill referred to Gaines as “trash” for daring to defend women’s rights in sports.
Then again, such a “journalist” probably denigrates anyone above her as “trash.”
Which would be most people.
Fortunately, Penn has opted to listen to women such as Gaines and administrations such as Trump’s in order to secure real security for female athletes in the future.
