Well, that escalated hyper-quickly.
And, rather frighteningly, hypersonic missiles may well become involved at this rate.
None other than Israel has struck back fiercely against Iran, though that should come as no surprise, given that Iran has apparently been rather resistant to any sort of sensible dialogue with the Trump administration.
Needless to say, absent the potential for any sort of sensible dialogue whatsoever, it would appear that a reasonable agreement on a nuclear deal is not exactly forthcoming.
Which is precisely why Israel launched a series of devastating attacks on Iran.
“As part of the IDF’s preparations for defense and offense across all arenas and with the start of operation ‘Rising Lion,’ the IDF began to deploy reservists from different units to all combat arenas throughout the country,” the IDF crisply declared in a succinct statement, with regards to the imminent attacks.
“Two months ago I gave Iran a 60-day ultimatum to “make a deal.” They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!” Trump declared on Truth Social.
A story to watch, that’s for sure.
While much of the world’s attention has been preoccupied with the ostensible ceasefire – or the admitted lack thereof – in Ukraine, it would appear that yet another long-festering conflict has surged to the surface.
And that conflict is none other than the conflict that arguably had the most powerful impact on the most recent presidential election.
That’s right: The ongoing war in Israel, which was catalyzed by the horrific terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023, was certainly one of the more prominent influences on the 2024 election process.
After all, the terrorist attack unwittingly – albeit tragically – exposed the rampant antisemitism present across multiple university campuses, thereby underscoring the degree to which international students may well pose a major threat to the nation in the long run.
And, in doing so, that rampant antisemitism also revealed the degree to which Iran remains troublingly intertwined in multiple national and international affairs.
Indeed, while much of the focus has been on foreign Chinese students – not surprising given how many of them may well be de facto spies – it is also clear that Iran, alongside Russia and other ostensible adversaries, has taken advantage of the transparency of the United States for the nation’s own nefarious purposes.
And since the pro-terrorist protests on American college campuses are effectively pro-Iran protests at their core – given the regime’s open support of Hamas – it is rather alarming to see the extent to which the stakes have truly been risen now.
While Trump did promise a more peaceful world, it would appear that tensions are boiling more than anticipated.
That said, the tensions have yet to fully explode, and one can only hope that Iran – alongside its major supporter, Russia – will be dissuaded from undertaking any further, deeply incendiary moves.
