Looks like Republicans are heading straight back to the “root causes” that inspired the United States in the first place.
Indeed, the Founding Fathers hardly fled across the pond in order to create a tax system that effectively enslaves individuals to the government for life, yet that’s somehow exactly what’s happened over the past few years.
Especially in states run by Democrats.
Now, more than one Republican is taking aim at longstanding taxes that thwart American dreams … in particular the dream to own one’s own home.
In an exclusive report with Fox News, varied Republicans are apparently rallying the forces to abolish property taxes, underscoring the patriotic nature of their proposal.
Indeed, Pennsylvania State Representative Russ Diamond detailed how he intended to file HB 900, a measure that proposes the abolition of property tax.
Fox News Digital exclusively learned that this bill “will be filed imminently.”
“Property taxes are an issue that is not exactly partisan, because in some areas, it’s more of a big deal than in others. For me, the ‘big deal’ is that I want people to own their homes and not have to rent from the government, all across Pennsylvania,” Diamond declared.
Without a doubt.
Diamond acknowledged that some areas feature “middle-of-the-road” property taxes, whereas other areas feature property taxes that are a “big deal.”
“Boiled down to its very essence, fulfilling the promise of personal liberty is impossible if you can’t actually own a piece of real property,” Diamond mused.
Indeed. Which is how people have tragically lost homes that they have paid in full.
“It’s easy to see why this antiquated tax is so despised in all corners of the commonwealth. More than 10,000 homes are seized annually in Pennsylvania and auctioned off for failure to pay the tax,” Diamond asserted.
Needless to say, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was also on board.
“Is the property yours or are you just renting from the government?” DeSantis questioned, making it rather clear he is in favor of personal ownership.
That viewpoint was even clearer in his next question.
“You buy a home, pay off a mortgage — and yet you still have to write a check to the government every year just to live on your own property?” DeSantis queried.
Absolutely.
“Taxpayers need relief,” DeSantis declared.
Do they ever! Especially with the ongoing effects of Bidenflation.
DeSantis further doubled down on Twitter, cheering the hearts of Florida homeowners.
“Property taxes are local, not state. So we’d need to do a constitutional amendment (requires 60% of voters to approve) to eliminate them (which I would support) or even to reform/lower them… We should put the boldest amendment on the ballot that has a chance of getting that 60%… I agree that taxing land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective form of taxation…,” DeSantis declared.
DeSantis is also highly likely to agree with Diamond, who quoted the late Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Michael Musmanno to defend his stance against property taxes.
the ability to master one’s fate is the “greatest joy that can be experienced by mortal man.”
“None shines with greater luster and imparts more innate satisfaction and soulful contentment to the wearer than the golden, diamond-studded right to be let alone. Everything else in comparison is dross and sawdust,” Diamond proclaimed, in memory of Musmanno.
And may that memory continue to play a powerful role in policy shaping today …
