Want to lose $400M overnight?
Then run an Ivy League university like a poorly run terrorist training camp, and that’s exactly what will happen.
Indeed, a number of Ivy League universities demonstrated absolutely deplorable behavior in wake of the devastating terrorist attacks on Israel, with countless “students” marching around in favor of Hamas.
That’s right: That would be the same Hamas cheering in the streets following the devastating terrorist attacks of September 11.
Naturally, quite a few Jewish students were deeply uneasy, if not altogether frightened, which soon became clear when evaluating their plummeting admission rates at pro-Hamas institutions.
Which is exactly why the Trump administration has called for real accountability from the most feckless of universities – Columbia University.
Indeed, Columbia was one of the worst of all, given its location deep in the heart of the sanctuary city of New York.
Heck, more than one “newcomer” may well have been amongst the militants on campus!
In a statement to Business Insider, Harrison Fields, who serves as the principal deputy press secretary for the White House, made it rather clear that such pro-Hamas behavior won’t fly anymore.
At least it won’t fly if universities are interested in receiving any federal funding in the future, that is.
“Relentless anti-Semitic racism on college campuses will not be tolerated, and Columbia University has been held accountable for their refusal to protect students equally,” Fields declared.
How about that? Good old-fashioned accountability, which has unfortunately been out of fashion for the past several years.
And that accountability comes with a clear price tag: $400M, to be exact.
According to an official press release from the Department of Education, multiple federal agencies have collaborated together to hold Columbia University accountable, making it abundantly clear that pro-Hamas antics don’t pay, especially long-term.
“Today, the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Education (ED), and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced the immediate cancelation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University due to the school’s continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students,” the DOE detailed.
Naturally, the White House couldn’t resist a cheeky update on its official Twitter webpage, further irritating the mainstream media.
“SHALOM COLUMBIA: The Trump Admin, led by @USEDgov and the Task Force to Combat Antisemitism (@TheJusticeDept, @HHSGov, & @USGSA), has canceled ~$400M in federal grants to @Columbia over its failure to protect Jewish students from antisemitic harassment,” the White House tweeted.
“Over its failure to protect Jewish students.”
It’s quite astonishing that the White House has to issue such a remark in 2025 … especially following an administration that based most of its policies on DEI.
Selective DEI, at that, as Jewish individuals were clearly excluded.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon further elaborated precisely why $400M in funding is being yanked from Columbia University, highlighting that such a move has been a long time in the making.
“Since October 7, Jewish students have faced relentless violence, intimidation, and anti-Semitic harassment on their campuses – only to be ignored by those who are supposed to protect them. Universities must comply with all federal antidiscrimination laws if they are going to receive federal funding. For too long, Columbia has abandoned that obligation to Jewish students studying on its campus. Today, we demonstrate to Columbia and other universities that we will not tolerate their appalling inaction any longer,” McMahon declared.
“Appalling inaction.” Otherwise known as Democrat platforms in a nutshell.
Leo Terrell, Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and head of the DOJ Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, also made it clear that freezing federal funding is just one of the tools that will be used for responding to the rise in antisemitism.
“Freezing the funds is one of the tools we are using to respond to this spike in anti-Semitism. This is only the beginning. Canceling these taxpayer funds is our strongest signal yet that the Federal Government is not going to be party to an educational institution like Columbia that does not protect Jewish students and staff,” Terrell noted.
Columbia University has naturally panicked, though at least Columbia University Interim President Katrina Armstrong appears more willing to address serious issues with antisemitism.
At least far more so than the former Egyptian president of Columbia, Minouche Shafik,
who finally resigned after relentless pressure.
Needless to say, Shafik was hardly sensitive to the plight of Jewish students.
As reported by Fox News, Armstrong, however, is … at least when $400M is on the line.
“When I accepted the role of Interim President in August 2024, I knew Columbia needed a reset from the previous year and the chaos of encampments and protests on our campus. The University also needed to acknowledge and repair the damage to our Jewish students, who were targeted, harassed, and made to feel unsafe or unwelcome on our campus last spring,” Armstrong declared.
Hilariously, Armstrong even admitted that the disciplinary process “previously only existed on paper” in the past.
You don’t say …
