Seems that outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau isn’t backing down from the Trump administration without a fight.
Even if that fight means that Canada plays even dirtier than the United States.
According to a report from the BBC, a number of provinces across Canada have pulled American beer, wine, and liquor brands off the shelves of various stores in response to Trump’s tariffs.
Unfortunately, Canada’s unilateral decision to remove American alcohol products from the market entirely is quite a bit more aggressive than implementing an additional tax, which the BBC detailed.
“Canadian provinces pulling US alcohol off store shelves in response to Trump trade policy is ‘worse than tariffs’, the boss of Jack Daniel’s maker Brown-Forman has said.
Several Canadian provinces, including Ontario, which is by far the most populated, took action this week in retaliation for US tariffs on Canadian goods. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), one of the largest buyers of alcohol in the world, removed US-made alcoholic drinks from its shelves on Tuesday,” BBC detailed.
According to Lawson Whiting, who is the boss of Jack Daniel’s maker Brown-Forman, the latest news out of Canada are far worse for American prospects than increased tariffs.
“I mean, that’s worse than a tariff, because it’s literally taking your sales away, completely removing our products from the shelves,” Whiting detailed.
Frankly, alcohol may be the least of Americans’ concerns as the Trudeau administration and its likeminded leaders continue onwards in their response to Trump.
For instance, Ontario Premier Doug Ford gloated about the fact that he will cut off Americans’ access to key energy supplies with “a smile” on his face while doing so.
“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything — including cut off their energy with a smile on my face,” Ford brayed.
According to Ford, Americans “need to feel the pain.”
“They rely on our energy, they need to feel the pain. They want to come at us hard, we’re going to come back twice as hard,” Ford continued, angrily ranting away.
Well, that’s just great. Good thing that the nation is starting to enter the spring months.
“I [didn’t] start this tariff war, but we’re going to win this tariff war,” Ford added ominously.
And if you thought Ford’s talk was hyperbolic, just consider Trudeau’s most recent accusation.
Per the Canadian prime minister, Trudeau believes that Trump is attempting to initiate “a total collapse of the Canadian economy because that will make it easier to annex us.”
If that were true, then waging war with Jack Daniels seems to be an odd counterattack.
