Looks like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is approaching politics with much greater wisdom relative to previous years.
As many are well aware, Zuckerberg, who used to be the most notorious for his enormous donations to Act Blue in 2020, took a deliberately neutral stance in the 2024 election.
Zuckerberg also expressed great admiration for Trump following the assassination attempt that nearly took his life, and he was also seated on stage while Trump was inaugurated for the second time.
Now, it appears that Trump has graciously recognized the ways in which Zuckerberg, amongst other tech giants, have come around, and that appreciation is rather evident in one of Trump’s most recent, deeply pro-American executive orders.
The executive order – “Defending American Companies and Innovators from Overseas Extortion and Unfair Fines and Penalties” – takes aim straight at one of the more absurd anti-American practices overseas.
From “allies,” no less.
The order provides detailed insight into all the ways in which Trump is dedicated to protecting American industry, particularly against foreign powers and other potentially nefarious forces.
And, unfortunately, while those nefarious forces undoubtedly include nations inherently resistant to the concept of freedom, the same forces also include various allies who are apparently more than determined to undermine American technological prowess.
While likely embracing China’s, of course.
And that anti-American approach may well boil down to good old-fashioned envy, which may be inferred from the executive order.
“In recent years, the gross domestic product of the United States’ digital economy alone, driven by cutting-edge American technology companies, has been bigger than the entire economy of Australia, Canada, or most members of the European Union,” the order began.
In other words, entire American companies have managed to generate more revenue than entire European countries.
No surprise there, and even less of a surprise that pro-illegal migration EU bureaucrats have taken every measure possible to harm them, even if the main measures include exorbitant fines coupled with an unhealthy degree of censorship.
“Instead of empowering their own workers and economies, foreign governments have increasingly exerted extraterritorial authority over American companies, particularly in the technology sector, hindering these companies’ success and appropriating revenues that should contribute to our Nation’s well-being, not theirs,” the order continued.
In this case, “appropriating revenues” may be referred to as taxes implemented expressly to rob from tech companies, as the order notes.
“Beginning in 2019, several trading partners enacted digital services taxes (DSTs) that could cost American companies billions of dollars and that foreign government officials openly admit are designed to plunder American companies,” the order added.
Totally unsurprising.
And all the more ridiculous considering that a huge percentage of the taxes collected likely go to supporting Europe’s own “newcomers,” which Western European leaders have encouraged with apparent abandon, for no apparent reason.
Though it’s easy for such leaders to do so when they have security and gated residences in the wealthiest areas of the city.
For the people who they are tasked with protecting? Not so much.
Even worse, ever since Europe has begun to attack freedom of speech more aggressively – with some people in Germany even jailed as a result of “offensive” speech – large American technology companies have been caught in the fray.
Apparently, Europe either relies on American or Chinese companies for its social media and communication needs, and the Trump administration has long since had it with the region’s “fines” and other absurd restrictions that may well defy real progress.
“The Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative shall investigate whether any act, policy, or practice of any country in the European Union or the United Kingdom has the effect of requiring or incentivizing the use or development of United States companies’ products or services in ways that undermine freedom of speech and political engagement or otherwise moderate content, and recommend appropriate actions to counter such practices under applicable authorities,” the order asserted.
And one person who will certainly be glad to hear about this development is none other than Zuckerberg, given that his company has been fined billions in Europe … since 2023 alone.
In May 2023, the New York Times blared, “Meta Fined $1.3B.” In November 2024, CNN declared, “Europe fines Meta $840MM.” Then, once again in December 2024, Reuters proclaimed, “EU privacy regulator finds Meta 251 million euros.”
In other words, Zuckerberg has been hammered with fines that are oftentimes nine figures or greater, ostensibly due to his supposed violation of “privacy laws” and other “data practices.”
Naturally, such “data practices” might be associated with conservative politics, given how militantly far left many European politicians – including “conservative” politicians – appear to be.
Then again, Europe, or at least Western Europe, has had largely unfettered, and in fact encouraged, mass migration from North Africa, the Middle East, and beyond for much of the twenty-first century.
Naturally, such mass migration has been promoted by anarchist leftist George Soros and exploited by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been known to exploit mass migration via “hybrid warfare.”
Indeed, Putin is well aware of how destabilizing mass migration can be to society, which is precisely why Poland rapidly erected its own wall to stem some of the mass migration.
Regardless of whatever Meta’s supposed data practice violations may be, it seems clear that Europe has been put on notice over its exorbitant fines, many of which have an insufficient justification.
It’s frankly rather surprising that the Biden administration didn’t do more for the tech companies that did so much to sweep him to power.
Then again, it was also surprising that Biden was apparently forced to follow handwritten notecards his entire presidency as well … which he would oftentimes show off to the press.
Luckily, a real leader with much greater mental acuity is in charge now, and, as promised, he is scoring win after win for all Americans.
Even for the big tech bros who so vehemently opposed him before.
