“When there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
What an accurate phrase to describe the current White House … Assuming that “smoke” is one of Trump’s thoughts and “fire” is an actionable idea behind those thoughts.
Indeed, Trump puts quite a bit of smoke out there, some of which may appear quite random … until an actionable policy arises to put that precise idea into motion.
The “fire” of the Trump administration, so to speak.
For instance, Trump proclaimed his intentions to remove hordes of illegal migrants from the nation … and within the first few days of his administration, ICE raided several notorious enclaves for illegals.
In other words, the Trump administration is continuing to demonstrate a classic alignment between words and actions, or the metaphorical smoke and fire.
Recently, Trump floated a rather intriguing idea, in which he considered the value of deporting violent repeat criminals alongside illegal migrants.
“We also have many violent criminals in our country, however, that did not necessarily come here illegally, but have been arrested 30 times, 35 times, 41,42 times, in a couple of cases. I don’t want these violent repeat offenders in our country any more than I want illegal aliens from other countries who misbehave,” Trump mused.
A rather attractive idea to Americans who are completely fed up with escalating crime rates.
And, as usual, Trump’s musings have now translated into action, with his administration announcing a new deal with El Salvador to accept violent criminals alongside illegal migrants.
According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele “has agreed to the most unprecedented, extraordinary, extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world.”
“[Bukele has] also offered to do the same for dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentence in the United States even though they’re U.S. citizens or legal residents,” Rubio added.
In other words, exactly what Trump was discussing all of a few days ago.
Rubio’s report was further reinforced by official remarks from the State Department.
“President Bukele agreed to take back all Salvadoran MS-13 gang members who are in the United States unlawfully. He also promised to accept and incarcerate violent illegal immigrants, including members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, but also criminal illegal migrants from any country,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce asserted.
Yet another example of rapid action in a matter of days, rather than bureaucratic handwringing for years.
Not to mention a seemingly sensible solution for a problem that was largely caused by Democrats and their outrageous DEI-oriented policies.
After all, violent crime and rampant recidivism have increased in the wake of Democrats’ ill-advised “zero bail” policies, which allegedly help improve “equity” in the justice system.
Ironically, “equity” might be naturally improved from discouraging criminal lifestyles in the first place, especially if would-be criminals are instead motivated to be productive members of society.
Unfortunately, the Dems have a vested interest in keeping much of their base economically disempowered and insufficiently educated.
Now, however, the Dems’ base may find itself shipped overseas into a maximum-security prison for criminal gangs.
Ironically, the threat of imminent exportation to prison in El Salvador might be all that is needed to persuade an aspiring criminal to choose a different life path.
Which is precisely what should occur in a truly progressive political climate.
