DeSantis Weaponizes AI Against Trump In Attack Ad

The political war between Trump and DeSantis has hit a fresh new low, especially on the attack ad front.

Astonishingly, the DeSantis camp apparently utilized AI-generated images to depict Trump warmly embracing Dr. Fauci … photos that have been widely disputed as fake.

As reported by the Daily Mail, suspected AI-generated images have emerged in one of DeSantis’s political attack ads.

“An attack ad released by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign used AI-generated images of former President Donald Trump hugging Dr. Anthony Fauci.

AFP reported Wednesday that three of the images in the 44-second attack ad are fakes … Those images show Trump hugging and kissing Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who became synonymous with the U.S.’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the publication detailed.

Yikes. One can only imagine how Trump (and the media) may respond to this one.

Varied professionals have noted that some of the images of Trump used in DeSantis’s video are most likely fake.

Matthew Stamm, an associate professor at Drexel University who specializes in electrical and computer engineering, notes that the way in which Trump’s hair is shown is a clear indicator of AI-generated images.

“These images contain many signs indicating that they were AI-generated … For example, if you look closely at Donald Trump’s hair in the top-left, bottom-middle, and bottom-right images, you can see that it contains inconsistent textures and is significantly blurrier than other nearby content such as his ears or other regions of his face,” Stamm noted.

Unfortunately, many viewers will not necessarily notice these telling discrepancies.

Which is precisely why other professionals have found DeSantis’s ad to be “sneaky,” amongst other adjectives.

Hany Farid, an expert in digital forensics and a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, noted the ad was quite deceptive.

“It was sneaky to intermix what appears to be authentic photos with fake photos, but these three images are almost certainly AI generated,” Faird observed.

DeSantis supporters argue that Trump utilizes AI far more often than anyone else, conveniently displacing the blame from the Florida governor during an increasingly intensified fight.

Matt Wolking, a spokesperson for the Never Back Down PAC and a prominent supporter of DeSantis, indicated this belief quite explicitly.

“’No campaign has pushed more misleading deepfakes, false photoshops, and outright fabrications than the Trump campaign … It is 100 percent true that Donald Trump empowered and embraced Fauci – he even gave him a presidential commendation,” Wolking declared.

Right, until Fauci continued to counteract him at every turn … despite the harm it caused to the nation.

One can only hope that all the Republican contenders keep the most intense focus on beating the Democrats, rather than each other.
