Leave it to ultra-woke high schools to destroy military recruitment efforts while simultaneously indoctrinating younger Americans into an extremist ideology.
The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), which has long been an important source of recruitment, was established more than century ago with the aim of promoting the “values of citizenship,” alongside “service to the United States” coupled with “personal responsibility”:
“The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world. The National Defense Act of 1916 established organized JROTC programs at public and private educational institutions …
As congressionally mandated by Title 10 United States Code, Section 2031, each military service must have a JROTC program to ‘instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.’ JROTC’s mission, ‘To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens’, is the guidepost for the program’s success,” the JROTC official website details.
So, what do ultra-woke schools decide to do in light of these noble aims?
“They outlawed JROTC within the high schools, within the immediate San Francisco city … So, again, we’ve got to be very wary about the message we’re sending to our youth as well as our enemies abroad,” retired Navy SEAL Mike Sarraille remarked.
Not only has the army become more woke, but schools have also diminished the army at the same time. Double whammy.
Little wonder that trust in the military has plummeted.
As reported by Fox News, a Rasmussen poll revealed that confidence in the military declined from 70 percent in November 2018 to 48 percent in November 2022.
“I think a good sort of contrast here is there was a commercial by the Russians where they showed young men resolute, ready to do violence on behalf of their nation. And then the contrast to that is the U.S. Army that showed a video of a young soldier and her two mothers … We’re sending some very dangerous narratives. We have to have pride in our nation,” Sarraille added.
Seriously.
Comparing and contrasting American military ads with standard Russian and Chinese ads is quite an embarrassing exercise these days, given the degree of wokery that has creeped into the ads.
Perhaps the modern leadership of the American military may be unaware of this reality, but identity politics are not exactly key to having a competitive advantage on the battlefield.
Drive, dedication, and determination are, however, and these attributes are sadly lacking amongst the indoctrinated youth.
