When it comes to protecting parents against predatory school systems, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is on fire!
Recently, DeSantis took aim at sex-obsessed teachers, especially with regards to transgender ideology, with new suggestions for further amending bills designed to protect family interests.
Within the proposed rule, an intriguing set of principles emerges: the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, which declare that teachers “shall not intentionally provide classroom instruction to students in grades 4 through 12 on sexual orientation or gender identity unless such instruction is either expressly required by state academic standards as adopted in Rule 6A-1.09401, F.A.C., or is part of a reproductive health course or health lesson for which a student’s parent has the option to have his or her student not attend.”
Excellent. In particular the last note: “A student’s parent has the option to have his or her student not attend.”
Gotta love the use of “him or her” as well, as DeSantis refuses to play the transgender pronoun game.
DeSantis has already succeeded in banning sex-obsessed teachers from prattling on about gender to extremely young children, and he has naturally set his sights on expanding oversight of public education.
According to the current law, “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”
This law is precisely why engendered the rage of Disney, as DeSantis detailed in one of the chapters of his memoir, “The Magic Kingdom of Woke Corporatism.”
In this chapter, DeSantis recalls how former Disney CEO Bob Chapek contacted DeSantis to harangue him over the supposed “don’t say gay” bill.
“We get pressured all the time … But this time is different. I haven’t seen anything like this before,” Chapek apparently declared.
“Do not get involved with this legislation … You will end up putting yourself in an untenable position. People like me will say, ‘Gee, how come Disney has never said anything about China, where they make a fortune?’” DeSantis retorted.
Seriously. LeBron James is curiously silent on that one as well.
“All too often, GOP governors have bowed to corporate pressure, especially on noneconomic issues; I was going to stand firm in defense of the rights of parents and the well-being of our schoolchildren,” DeSantis added pointedly.
Which is precisely why he empowers families, not soulless government unions or bureaucracies that continue to undermine traditional American values.
