“I continue to be concerned about the impacts of the Feb 3 train derailment near East Palestine, OH, and the effects on families in the ten days since their lives were upended through no fault of their own. It’s important that families have access to useful & accurate information,” Buttigieg blared.
So goes Buttigieg’s recent attempt to walk back from his indifference towards a horrible train derailment crisis that appears to be well beyond the capabilities of Mr. Buttigieg.
Not to mention concern.
The derailment had devastating consequences for human and environmental health, as vinyl chloride, a cancer-causing substance that can contaminate water supplies, was released from five different cars “in the form of massive plumes of dark smoke visible throughout Eastern Ohio,” as reported by the Daily Wire.
As the seriousness of derailment unfolded and more voices called for an explanation, Buttigieg did what Dems seem to always do … blame Trump.
“We’re constrained by law on some areas of rail regulation (like the braking rule withdrawn by the Trump administration in 2018 because of a law passed by Congress in 2015), but we are using the powers we do have to keep people safe,” Buttigieg declared on Twitter.
Kind of funny Buttigieg likes to blame Trump when he had not a word to say about the derailment immediately after it happened.
Especially as he did have plenty to say about woke causes a week and a half later.
A week and a half after the derailment, Buttigieg was blaring about racial equity at the National Association of Counties Conference, rather than the very real crisis unfolding in Ohio.
“We have heard way too many stories from generations past of infrastructure where you got a neighborhood, often a neighborhood of color, that finally sees the project come to them, but everyone in the hard hats on that project, doing the good paying jobs, don’t look like they came from anywhere near the neighborhood,” Buttigieg warbled.
Sigh.
Buttigieg is back on his “racist roads” obsession yet again, which has so contorted his worldview that he can’t be bothered to help the residents of Ohio.
Even Representative Ilhan Omar indicated her displeasure with Buttigieg’s response, noting that Ohioans deserved a heck of a lot more than Buttigieg was apparently willing to provide.
“East Palestine railroad derailment will have a significant negative impact on the health and wellbeing of the residents for decades and there is almost zero national media attention,” Omar declared.
Hey, don’t worry, Rep. Omar. Remember … Buttigieg “feels” concerned … and he also clearly “feels” he needs to blame someone else, as usual, rather than solve the crisis.
To be clear, the feelings-obsessed types, which Buttigieg clearly is to lash out at Trump, are the same types that tend to have all the sensitivity in the world for themselves and limited to no sensitivity for others, as oftentimes reflected in the realities of public policy.
Sometimes, it is truly difficult to determine which of Biden’s comrades is the most indifferent to the general public.
At this point in time, it seems that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg may, once again, take the dubious prize for indifference.
