College Board Crumbles Under DeSantis Scrutiny

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has triumphed yet again against a woke College Board, which attempted to mire its first AP African American studies course in political bias and controversy.

In general, as reported by varied media outlets, much of the material pertains to actual history and events … however, the final section becomes a bit leery in terms of the content it offers.

“Across four broad units, the course covers many, mostly uncontroversial topics ranging from origins of the African diaspora to slavery and civil rights … The contentious material mostly arose in the course’s fourth and final unit, titled ‘movements and debates’. Subheadings within the section included ‘Intersectionality and Activism’ and ‘Black Queer Studies,’” the Daily Mail reported.

Right. Something suggests that neither Frederick Douglass nor Martin Luther King, Jr. made “queer” studies a focal point of their request for equality.

Indeed, DeSantis has made it clear that such ultra-leftist wish list items fly in the face of factual reality, and he is hardly inclined to allow students across Florida to become inappropriately brainwashed.

“We believe in teaching kids facts and how to think, but we don’t believe they should have an agenda imposed on them. When you try to use black history to shoehorn in queer theory, you are clearly trying to use that for political purposes,” DeSantis remarked coolly.

The College Board clearly took the hint and dropped all references to highly contentious political subjects in the final version of the new AP course curriculum, a rather wise move, considering the level of obvious indoctrination needed to “teach” such material.

David Coleman, the head of the College Board, insists that the move was based on feedback from professors, rather than politicians.

“At the College Board, we can’t look to statements of political leaders … We experimented with a lot of things including assigning secondary sources, and we found a lot of issues arose as we did,” Coleman announced.

Where are these more conservative, or at least remotely sane, professors to be found? They are unfortunately much quieter than their loudmouth liberal counterparts.

And the loudmouth liberals, for once, have been confined to an “optional” section in the new curriculum.

“Towards the end of the guide, a section of ‘sample project topics’ – which are described as ‘illustrative only’ – has suggestions which include: Black Lives Matter: Origins, impacts, critics; Intersectionality and the dimensions of Black experiences; and Reparations debates in the U.S./ the Americas … The guide also now includes ‘Black conservatism: development and ideology’ as a suggested project idea – something that wasn’t included in the draft,” the Daily Mail observed.

Wow, imagine that! The concept of “Black conservativism” wasn’t included in the original draft, in spite of the growing presence of black conservatives in Washington, D.C. today!

Certainly more black conservatives than militant black queer studies advocates, but the leftists don’t want Americans knowing about that.

Wanna bet the ultra-leftist teachers will give students extra credit for choosing “queer studies” or BLM for a project while also discouraging (if not outright banning) projects on black conservativism?

Stay tuned for these developments, which are likely to surface in a local (or national) news media outlet near you.
