Trump Makes A Move In McCarthy Debacle

Let’s be honest: Republicans are not starting off 2023 with the most united front.

After barely retaking the House, which in and of itself should have been a warning, Republicans have apparently decided to war amongst themselves instead of against the Democrats for reasons that remain unknown to most, including former President Donald Trump himself.

In case you missed it, Representative Kevin McCarthy, yet again, failed to secure enough votes to become the next Speaker of the House.

Dreadfully, this failure plays out terribly from an optics perspective, especially relatlive to Pelosi’s longstanding, ironclad grip.

Per the Daily Wire, holdouts from the votes earlier this week included: Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Representative Dan Bishop (R-NC), Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Representative Josh Brecheen (R-OK), Representative Mike Cloud (R-TX), Representative Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ), Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Representative Bob Good (R-VA), Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Representative Andy Harris (R-MD), Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Representative Mary Miller (R-IL), Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC), Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN), Representative Scott Perry (R-PA), Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Representative Chip Roy (R-TX), and Representative Keith Self (R-TX).

Whatever their reasoning may be, the reality is that politics, at least successful politics to date, requires a degree of compromise, especially within one’s own party.

After all, would the holdouts prefer to have Hakeem Jeffries or Kevin McCarthy serving as Speaker of the House from 2024 onwards?

Something suggests that McCarthy is the safer bet.

Which is exactly why Trump has attempted to convince the Republican detractors otherwise.

“Some really good conversations took place last night,” he posted, “and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA, THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE!” Trump declared.

Emphasizing the points he made to his Republican colleagues, Trump strongly urged the detractors to vote in favor of McCarthy, as well as the Republican party forward in terms of defeating the Dems in 2024, not to mention defeating them on their anti-American agenda long before that.

“REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!” Trump added forcefully.

Exactly, Republicans. Stop giving Democrats something to laugh at, and stop giving President Biden something (else) to mock, which of course he will do in order to deflect attention from his own ghastly performance.

Former Vice President Mike Pence also weighed in, clearly aligning with Trump in terms of his support for McCarthy.

“Urging Every Republican in @HouseGOP to support my friend, Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker of the House. @GOPLeader‘s Leadership & Vision led to The New Republican Majority & I know Speaker McCarthy will lead the House to begin a Great American Comeback!” Pence proclaimed.

Absolutely. And an American comeback is definitely needed given the total disasters unfolding over the past two years … with more to come, provided the devious Democrats remain in control of the traditional media and way too influential in social media …
