The victories for former President Donald Trump continue as the primary elections continue to unfold across the nation, and Michigan represented an especially sweet victory for Trump’s endorsements.
Tudor Dixon, who was competing in a crowded field of potential Republican candidates, has succeeded in winning the nomination, and she will face off with incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer in the fall.
Trump was a fervent backer of Dixon, arguing that she is “pro-God, pro-gun, and pro-freedom,” which in turn means that “she won’t be stopped” when it comes to her fight against the incumbent Democrat governor.
Whitmer’s popularity has been on a steep decline ever since she implemented remarkably strict COVID restrictions over the course of the pandemic, with residents of the state becoming particularly incensed when her own staff would routinely flaunt the restrictions.
The former president was inspired to endorse Dixon after he was encouraged to do so by Betsy DeVos, his former education secretary.
In addition, Dixon has also enjoyed the support of a number of super PACs that are closely linked to DeVos, who originates from Michigan herself.
Dixon has made a number of pledged intended to hearten conservative Americans, including the fact that she will fiercely fight to keep LGBTQ agendas, including drag queens, out of public schools.
The aspiring gubernatorial candidate has also indicated that she is opposed to abortion, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk.
Dixon held a prominent fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property earlier in the year, where the president referred to her as “special” to the attending donors.
Whitmer has ramped up the attacks on the challenger she will face in the fall, much to the amusement of Dixon, who sees precisely what has motivated Whitmer’s attacks.
“Obviously, they’re desperate to get me out of this,” Dixon mused, “[and] they don’t want me running against Gretchen [Whitmer].”
Nonetheless, Dixon faces a steep uphill battle, as Whitmer has an estimated $15M in her campaign war chest.
