Representative Ronny Jackson, alongside 53 other Republican lawmakers, are calling for President Joe Biden to take a cognitive test in light of the president’s several questionable appearances and noticeable gaffes.
In a letter, the legislators expressed clear concern regarding the president’s “current cognitive state,” and strongly urge for him to “submit to a cognitive test immediately.”
The legislators also pointed out how former President Donald J. Trump was clearly amenable to a cognitive test.
“We believe that, regardless of gender, age, or political party, all Presidents should follow the example set by former President Trump to document and demonstrate sound mental abilities,” the legislators continued.
Ironically, when Trump was in power, the media constantly questioned his fitness for office, which resulted in the president publicizing his ultimately healthy results from a cognitive test.
Biden, however, who visibly struggles with various cognitive issues, has yet to take a test in spite of multiple dozens of lawmakers requesting insight into his mental acuity, or lack thereof.
In addition, the lawmakers also pointed out that it was hardly just Republican interests noticing Biden’s cognitive decline; several media outlets that had previously offered nothing short of a complete defense for Biden and virtually all the actions that he takes have also suggested serious issues with the president’s present cognitive state.
“According to The New York Times, the increased scrutiny surrounding your cognitive state has been fueled by your recent public appearances,” the legislators wrote, indicating that their request is hardly partisan.
On the contrary, their request reflects the concerns of all Americans, given the importance of a president having all his mental abilities in alignment.
Noting that the American people deserve “absolute confidence in their President,” the letter continued on to note that part of this confidence entails “full transparency [regarding] the mental capabilities of their highest elected leader.”
At 79 years old, Biden is the oldest president to serve in American history.
