In the wake of the rising human smuggling and narcotics crisis, the White House has quietly resumed constructing part of the border wall commenced under the Trump administration.
Specifically, the Biden administration recently greenlit the continuing completion of a key section of the border wall in California.
According to KPBS, representatives from Friends of Friendship Park noted that Customers and Border Protection (CBP) officials announced that the border fences along the park would be replaced with walls spanning to 30 feet in height.
Friends of Friendship Park is located between Tijuana and San Diego, and it comprises the western-most point of the United States in terms of its border with Mexico. This particular location of the border constitutes the only area wherein individuals in the United States could visibly see friends and family located in Mexico.
Amazingly, the largely recalcitrant Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, well known for denying a crisis at the border, approved the designs for the 30-foot fences, which had been initially conceived under the Trump administration during the fiscal year of 2018.
The CBP has been in contact with the KPBS, confirming plans to construct new fencing around the park, arguing that the present border infrastructure lacks structural soundness.
The new walls will not feature a pedestrian gate, as observed by the Reverend John Fanestil of The Border Church.
According to Fanestil, the “latest announcement really amounts to the complete desecration of this historic location.”
“We believe that the Biden administration should not be putting the finishing touches on Donald Trump’s border wall at Friendship Park,” the advocate added.
While Biden has made the highly public reversal of many Trump policies a cornerstone of his presidency, he has taken some surprising measures behind the scenes, especially in terms of approving various projects at numerous locations along the border.
These measures are likely due to the enormous influx of migrants into the nation since Biden assumed the presidency, which have shattered previous records.
